To Andy. Sorry for delay in replying. George Moonlight and cousin Tom both sought gold in Australia before coming to N.Z.where George, having gained a reputation as a prospector worth following, both cousins used the name "Fairweather" when taking up a claim in Otago (1861). George left Arbroath when he was very young and years later ended up on a clipper ship that the crew deserted in California (1848)where George first struck gold. Tom was well schooled and had studied the geologist Murchison so when the two met up on the Australian goldfields Tom had the theory on where gold lay but George had an uncanny knack for finding gold -but he rarely stayed to work it. His N.Z story has been told by others but without the help of computors and the W.W.W. so now I am attempting to retell it from his boyhood to his death in the hills south of Nelson(where George named a mountain "Magdaline". Scholarly cousin,Thomas, remains parentless but that won't be a problem.
