Thanks for your interest. I was aware of the Pelot you mention. He was part of the same extended family. A Pelot descendant has done an excellent job of researching their family genealogy, and I have seen a copy of the resulting book at the Mid-Continent public library in Independence, MO that has an excellent genealogical collection.

When I was young, I had the privilege of knowing three children of the South Carolina/Kansas Dr. Pelot who told stories about their father. I wish I had listened harder. We have a few souvenirs of Dr. Pelot's life on the frontier. This Dr. Pelot moved to Sweet Springs, MO (formerly named Brownsville) in the early 1870's. He died there in 1888. Apparently none of his children who grew to adulthood produced offspring.
