Sorry to jump on this at such a late date, but I just ran across this thread while researching JM Pelot of Charleston. This may be of some interest to you ... James Malachi Pelot (1833-1888), The Citadel Class of 1851, Medical College of SC Class of 1855. My information holds that he served as the Regimental Surgeon of the 5th South Carolina at First Manassas, under his friend and schoolmate, Micah Jenkins, The Citadel Class of 1854. I don't know much about Kansas ... someone once told me the State Tree of Kansas is the telephone pole ... or Dr. Pelot being there. But, this should help clear up his rabid connection to South Carolina during The Struggle.
