I'm sure sending copies of letters to the Kansas Historical Society is a fine idea. I'm wondering what they have already for this reason.
In one of my scrupulous web searches, I came across information that leads me to believe that the Lecompton Reenactors performed a play last year, apparently patterned on a town meeting, and one of the characters was a Dr. J. M. Pelot. If I have it right (and I was trying to email the Lecompton group to check when I saw notice of your latest posting), the play "Bleeding Kansas" was written by a Howard Duncan. I wonder how Pelot was portrayed. Given what I know of the family personally, they were educated, given to civic involvement and public service, and thoughtful.
Is there any chance this person could persuade you to send copies of the letters also to the Missouri Historical Society. Dr. Pelot and at least his oldest son had some effect on Missouri history post Civil War, but the Kansas connection was not apparently well known.
It's been interesting to correspond with you.
