Co. A,115 Illinois Infantry

Michael,

No excuses needed! I'm thrilled you're interested in Christian County, Illinois! I am too for several reasons. My records show that my other great uncle, (Francis M. Sherrill) served in the 115th Illinois Infantry--Company A. He was 28 years old,--looks like joined for duty on August 15, 1862 in Taylorville. But above that the roll says of Butler, Illinois, Sept. 13, 1862--that's listed as the muster date. Originally it was listed as Captain Lapham's Co., 115 Reg't Inf. At the bottom of the card, it says *this organization subsequently became Co. A, 115 Reg't Ill. Inf.

Francis M. Sherrill, as per his Company muster roll record, died of typhoid fever in the general hospital in Covington, Kentucky on October 22,1862. Went in later, but died before his brother Elijah James. It looks like Francis M. was in for only 5 or so weeks before the fever got him.

Who was your ancestor--did he serve in the 113 or the 115th with my great uncle?

I'm looking for where Francis M. Sherrill is buried also.

Thanks for all of your help!
Marsha
