My GGGGrandfather served in this unit.Recieved shrapnel to his head crossing the TN.river under artillery fire at Eastport,MS..One was Francis M. Sherill killed Oct.22,1862 at Covington KY and a Samuel J.mustered out June11, 1865.Elliot is a Border Scots surname.You were looking for sources check out :

It states Cpl.Sherrill along with 39 others were killed and 122 wounded from the 41st in the Jackson battle. Good luck!
