Dave, that is most interesting indeed. Some Naval records were deliberately destroyed at Richmond, during the evacuation in April, 1865, and because of this we will never know of the service of many CS Navy personnel, though we have been able to build some profiles from a large number of other sources. Even in the Confederate pension records, from the different states, there is often no indication of Naval service (usually mentions their Army service, and sometimes doesn't indicate a transfer to the Navy), unless one is prepared to read through each and every page. At one time I was attempting to go through every single Confederate pension record from Florida, as they are freely available online, and did find several Army personnel mentioned as having transferred to the Navy, though the index did not always mention such facts. I only got through the letter B in the alphabetical order of the records before having to give it up, as I have numerous other projects to concentrate on. Yet this location of Confederate States Navy personnel is still of importance to my research, and I may get back to the Florida pensions at some later stage.
As for Gaither, I will include his details on my web site (link shown below) if you will permit me, with credit in your name. Additionally if you do come upon other CS Naval personnel data, which is not included on my pages, please let me know, and I will also add this information as well. Thanks for all your help.
