Most of the communication between the army and navy was verbal, but the navy officers comment quite a bit in their correspondence about it. They were extremely frustrated over the fact that the obstructions were placed while they were putting the Chattahoochee through her trials and getting ready to head down to the bay.

I'm in Florida and not around my papers, but when I get back to Arkansas in a week I will pull some specific references for you. In one, though, an officer comments on the disgust he felt when the Chattahoochee steamed up to the obstructions and then turned back. In another, a remark is made about Gov. Milton of Florida threatening to blow the obstructions "to the devil."

I was back up at the yard today doing a little additional exploring. I found the remains of some earthen ramps and what appears to be a very overgrown redoubt or fort just below the yard.
