Pierre Giraud, U.S.S. Montauk
In Response To: Re: USS Rattler at Rodney MS ()

I am looking for information on Gunnery Officer Pierre Giraud of the U.S.S. Montauk, when he oversaw the firing of the guns, destroying the rebel raider Nashville, and later the U.S.S. Ossipee, which he commanded during the battle of Mobile Bay, detailed by Adm. Farragut to receive the sword of Captain Buchanan of the CSS Atlanta.
I have two letters from Giraud, one describing his participation in the destruction of the Nashville and another describing the monitor attack on Ft. Sumter later that spring. If anyone has any additional history on this young man, including and particularly a copy of his photograph, I'd be deeply grateful. Thanks.
