Rodney MS
In Response To: Re: USS Rattler at Rodney MS ()

Rodney is located west of Lorman, Miss. (where Alcorn State is located) Alcorn was actually "Oakland College" built just across the Claiborne Co. line, so the people of Rodney would not have their children 'up North' to get a better education. It became Alcorn in the 1870s-80s.

For those interested in Rodney, there is a book called "Miss-Lou Border Country" by Marie Logan that tells a good bit of history, and also Gordon Cotton's "News from Rodney" Both have been out print for years, but can usually be found by inter library loan.
