Report of observations regarding Fort Jackson after its surrender by Joseph Harris of the U.S. Coast Survey mentions that among the seventy-five guns supporting the work were one nine inch in the second bastion and two eight inch mortars in the third bastion. Report of May 4, 1862 states that the mortars of Fort Jackson "fired occasionally".
