More CW Books re Women's CW Activity
In Response To: Re: "A Diary From Dixie" ()

Let's put the word out and see if anyone has suggestions for reading material re: Women's experiences in CW other than the "elite" or "nurse" I find that most of the women's experiences are in journal's, letters, or diaries. Of course, that is exactly what Mary Chestnut kept; a journal. Interest in publishing because of who she was and who she associated with. The inside activities of the "top brass" from a woman's view. And, we must remember women's role in society during those times. I browse the college web sites for documents that pertain to women...I find small publishings of diaries or letters... they are so telling. The pain of loss, the suffering....the fear..the anger....all there in those letters and diaries. Most of the diaries ceased after the war ended.

I really enjoyed the novel (supposed to be based on family memoroirs) written by Janice Wilton Woods....having a senior moment...it was a made for TV movie also(based here in Texas mostly) TURE WOMEN. They briefly mentioned CW years. She had a follow-up book that I read...I will think of the name....it was a very nice read also.
