Hello:
I am researching a relative who served in the 77th Ohio from 1861 til his honorable discharge in Aug. 18, 1862. He was a Private in Co. I. He may have been ill when he was discharged. His name was John Province (Provance/Provence/Provins). I got this information from another researcher & she had conflicting information. One record said he died a month after his discharge (22 Sep. 1862), and another record said he died in 1926.

It seems that he was discharged just before the unit was sent to guard POWs in Illinois. I know very little about this unit or relative. Would greatly appreciate referrals to any other good sites, photos, info, etc. He was my Ggrandmother's brother. Thanks!! Susan
