There is a small group of Civil War enthusist here in Arkansas who are trying to preserve more of the Marks Mill battlefield than just the 5 acres poorly maintained State Park which that marks the site.

It is interesting that both yours and Dougs account comments on the eye inflection problem. Dougs account blames the the eye problem on Scury because of the poor living conditions while in the Prisoner of War camp at Camp Ford Texas. However, you account indicates that this Eye inflection was problem well before that time.

This is interesting since Arkansas had been enduring a drought during the growing seasons of 1862/63. I wonder if it was the general lack for fresh green vegitables which contributed to this condition?
