Thanks for the references on the "Battle of Franklin". I am stationed with the U.S. Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and am very close to Nashville and Franklin, Tennessee. I plan my first visit to Franklin tomorrow (Sunday), to check out the battle site, and historic events near the Carter House!

I missed the 140th Anniversity Battle Re-enactment at Frankln, on October 1-3, 2004. It was reported to be the largest Civil War battle re-enactment of the decade in the West. In this re-enactment, over 8,000 soldiers recreated the bloody battles of Franklin, Nashville, Spring Hill, and Columbia on the original Spring Hill, Tennessee battlefield (first time since the original Battle of Franklin, 140 years ago...).

By the way, my wife's great-great grandfather was Major Frank White, of the 15th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, and under the command of General Wagner, during the Battle of Missionary Ridge. Major Frank White, with the 15th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, fought alongside Colonel Opdycke, and General Harker's Brigade, on Missionary Ridge.

He was later transfered to the 17th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, under General Wilder, and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. He fought many close battles with the Confederate "Fox", General Bedford Forrest, until the very end at Macon, Georgia. He was breviated as a Brigidier General of the Indiana Volunteers at the end of the war, and is listed as a "Hoosier of Note" by the Indiana Civil War websites.
