If you talk of Opdycke's you must include 36IL.,44IL.,73IL.,74IL.,the 88IL. and the 24th Wisc.along with the 125OH.. My GGGrandfather was in the 36IL. but, he transfered before Tullahoma and was not involved at Franklin. Another man Lt.W.R.Lawrence was in the 73rd.IL.discharged at Chickamuang being shot through the mouth actually losing several teeth.He, after the war became Circuit Court Judge in Oklahoma,actually Indian Territory at that time before statehood.
I have reprints of the Histories of the 36thIL. and 73rd IL.Both have sections on Franklin though 73rd spells out day by day.Personal reminises from several men in a question and answer formate.If you haven't read either you are missing something.I also research W.R.Lawrence 73rd IL.because he was a family friend.Lt.W.R. Lawrence 73rdIL.was a lawyer and wrote a two page article/speach that was given at the Old Capitol IL.Supreme Court Building.I believe 1876 for a reunion of survivors.He speaks in an eliqeince I no long feel exists about Opdycke's.Puts a lump in your throat for sure if there is a grain of patriotism in your bones.Curiously, I have just been trying to locate amoung my notes.When I do I'll post it.
