Sam, Gen. Wagner was dropped to brigade command in the days after Franklin. I think he saw the writing on the wall and thus resigned. Wagner definitely made the error of his life at Franklin and I think it's a shame because in my humble opinion he was twice the soldier Opdycke could have ever dreamed to become. Incidently, Wagner died in 1869, only in his thirties. He died of an overdose of drugs he was taking to treat a "nervous" condition. I am convinced Wagner never got over the mistake he made at Franklin and died at an early age because of it. Eric
