As for the mustering out of Van Sickles Co'I' in Jul 62, I really can't shed any light on it except what is recorded in Burke's History of Kansas Regiments which simply states they were mustered out for being an irregular formation. A corralary question is why did it take nearly a year to incorporate a new Co'I' into the regiment-there were many companies raised and formed over that time period-that's something we may never know.
