Re: Home Guard 'Frontier Battalion"

The picture becomes a little clearer, thanks David. A new item I think you will find of interest. I was doing some research on the county history of Bourbon county, Ks by T. F. Robley, printed at Ft. Scott in 1975. In that work I came across an annecdote which I will quote:
Pg. 177 - Capt. Van Sycle, late Co. I, 6th Kansas and Lt. Ford of same Company in July 1862 two men, Rube Forbes and Troy Dye robbed the store of E. S. Scott, at Xenia. Dye got away but Forbes ran into a very dense brush patch about four miles from Mapleton where he was surrounded. The brush was so thick that they charged in as far as they could and fired. Rube returned fire killy Capt. Vansycle. Rube fired again and lt Ford fell wounded. Rube fired yet again and E. C. Buck and was badly wounded. Shortly after a company arrived and killed Rube.

I checked the rosters and naturally did not find either man. I have seen Van Sycle's name appear in other places. Any thoughts about this?
