Re: Home Guard 'Frontier Battalion"

From my understanding of the origins of the 6th Ks Cav, the Frontier Battalion was the units original name. Judson, Ransom & others had traveled to BG Lyons' HQ in Mo and received authority on 11 Jul 61 to raise a battalion for the defence of SE Ks. Initially, the battalion consisted of four companies. LT(?) Prince, of Ft Leavenworth, authorized the expansion of the unit which became the 6th.

Co'A'-CPT Ransom
Co'B'-CPT W.T. Campbell
Co'C'-CPT Gower
Co'D'-CPT Jewell/CPT Rodgers

Cos'A' & 'B' were mustered out Mar 62 and the KSHS has a roster for this early Co'A'. To date I'm unable to locate a roster for Co'B' though I'm creating a partial one from various returns. Co'C' in Dec 61 was transferred to 4th Ks Rgt and can be found in the AG report supplement listed under the regiment, Co'D'. Co'D' was basically mustered out in Mar 62, then reenlisted same month becoming Co'K'/6th Ks Cav.

Cato, KS, is in present day Crawford Co near Pittsburg, KS.
