Re: Vicksburg Hospital Patients

Peter:

Seth H. LAMBERT was enrolled on 4 MAR 1862 at Carrollton, Georgia for 3 years service. He was paid his $50 volunteer enlistment bonus and assigned to Company G, 41st Georgia Infantry at Camp McDonald on 10 MAR 1862. Captured at Vicksburg 4 JUL 1863, he was paroled in camp on 6 JUL 1863 and signed his parole certificate by making his mark. A second card in his CMSR shows that he was left in a hospital at Vicksburg on 10 JUL 1863 when the able bodied parolees walked out of Vicksburg. A record in his CMSR shows that he was received by Confederate authorities at Fort Morgan, Alabama on 5 AUG 1863 among a group of paroled sick and wounded prisoners who had been sent from Vicksburg on 30 JUL 1863 aboard the Steamer St. Maurice via New Orleans to Mobile. He was present for duty with his company on 31 DEC 1863. There are no further records of service in his CMSR file. This would appear to be the record of Seth Jr.

William S. LAMBERT enrolled 10 MAR 1862 at Carrollton, Georgia and was paid his $50 volunteer enlistment bounty on 29 MAR 1862 at Camp McDonald. He has no POW records documenting his capture at Vicksburg which suggests that he may have absent from the regiment during the siege. He was present for duty with his company on 31 DEC 1863. There are no further records in his file.

George Martin has presented Seth Sr.’s record in the 13th Georgia Infantry. Seth Sr. was about 47 years of age in 1861 which matches the age information that George has already posted.

I also noted a William P. LAMBERT enrolled in Company G, 41st Georgia Infantry in March 1862 in Carrollton, Georgia who died 30 APR 1862. His father was James M. LAMBERT who applied for death benefits and back pay and allowances due to William P. LAMBERT.
