S. H. Lambert, Private, Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry, War Department correspondence with the Georgia Commissioner of Pensions dated 4/9/1917, show S. H. Lambert enlisted July 8, 1861 and was discharged October 21,1861 by reason of S? C. D, CSR records are filed under the name L. H. Lambert

L. H. Lambert enlisted as a Private in Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry July 8, 1861, discharged October 9/10/21, 1861 at Sewell,

Camp "Defiance" Oct. 6th , 1861
L[S] H Lambert of Captain McCallay's Company (B) of the 13th regiment Georgia Volunteers of Confederate States, was enlisted by Capt. McCallay of 13th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers on the 8th day of July, to serve during the war, he was born in Putnam County in the State of Georgia is 48 years of age 5 ? in high, complexion dar, eyes light - hair mixed Gray & Black and, by occupation when enlisted a preacher - During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty Eight or Ten days - I believe said Lamber deserving of a discharge by reason of Surgeon's certificate. Jas. McCallay, Capt. Comdg. Comp.

Surgeon further certifies I " . . . find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of Internal Hemmorhoids, produced probably by constipation of the bowels, and Chronic disease of the liver connected with old age and increpitude."

Paid off October 21, 1861 at Richmond**

Seth H. Lambert enlisted as a Private in Company G, 41st Georgia Infantry March 4/10, 1862 at Carrollton, Georgia by Captain Kembree for 3 years, captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi July 4, 1863, paroled July 6, left in Vicksburg hospital, paid October 31, 1863, marked present on the Nov & Dec, 1863 muster roll where the company was stationed near Dalton, Georgia [This was the last surviving muster roll to be incorporated in these records] [I suspect he may have been among those shipped out of Vicksburg by boat, later in the month to Mobile, Alabama via New Orleans. I find nothing in the records to record his or Bill's subsequent travels]

Record of Events, Company A, for Nov & Dec, 1863, stationed near Dalton, Georgia

"Since last muster marched from Louden Tenn to Chattanooga Valley. Engaged in Battle of Missionary Ridge Nov. 25, 1863. In the retreat from that point to Dalton, Ga. Decr. 26 & 27, 1863."**

41st Regiment, Georgia Infantry

41st Infantry Regiment was organized during the fall of 1861. Many of its members were recruited in Cobb, Troup, Taylor, and Heard counties. The unit moved to North Mississippi, sustained heavy casualties in Kentucky at Perryville, then returned to Mississippi. Here it was assigned to General Barton's Brigade in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, fought in the battles around Vicksburg, and was captured on July 4, 1863. After being exchanged and assigned to General Stovall's Brigade, the 41st participated in the operations of the Army of Tennessee from Chattanooga to Nashville, and fought its last battle at Bentonville. It sustained 17 casualties at Chattanooga, contained 269 men and 218 arms in December, 1863, and totalled 197 effectives in November, 1864. Few surrendered on April 26, 1865. Its commanders were Colonels William E. Curtiss and Charles A. McDaniel, and Majors John Knight and Mark S. Nall.
