A couple of misc. bits and pieces:
Colonel Nelson Tift (1810-1891), captain in the Confederate Navy (1861), state congressman and later US representative from Georgia (1868-69).
I am searching for the parents of my ancestors who lived in Oglethorpe County in the late 1700s and early 1800s:
Benjamin Baldwin who died in 1815 and his wife Sarah who died in June 1801. Sarah may have been either Sarah Jurdine or Sarah Garden. Their son James G. Baldwin married Damaris Claudia Cummins (daughter of the Rev. Francis Cummins). James died in 1819. James and Damaris had two sons: Francis G. Baldwin and Benjamin Baldwin. Francis was my gggrandfather. He married Julia Smith Clayton (daughter of Judge Augustine Smith Clayton) in Athens 19 November 1841. They moved to Columbus, Mississippi with Damaris. Francis and Julia had a son James G. Baldwin who served in the Confederate Navy (he resigned from Annapolis) and Army. He moved to Texas in 1867.
