Mabry, you may also be interested to know that, during my search of the 1890 veterans census (supposed to be only for Union veterans, but some Confederates also inevitably creeped in, as I have found about three or four CSN veterans listed) I found the name of Gilland/Gillen listed, and he was, at that time shown as residing in New York, and had also served on the CSS Palmetto State. Here is what I have listed on him, at my CSN bios:
James Gilland (surname also shown as Gillen), served as seaman aboard the ironclad ram CSS Virginia, Hampton Roads, Virginia, 1862; also served aboard the ironclad ram CSS Palmetto State; stated to have served in all naval engagements (presumably of the two vessels he served on); resided, in 1890, at Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.
