The copy of the CSS Alabama photo shown at your web site is most definitely the one shown at my web site, although cropped. I have compared it with that of the one owned by the Tennessee Archives, and that image is quite spotted, making it of rather poor quality.
I will be advising Mr. Lee of this fact, and will let him decide what action he wishes to take.
It is because of incidents such as this that Mr. Lee was originally reluctant to allow others to use copies of his image, and I certainly don't blame him. Only recently I was able to convince him to change his mind, and to correspond with those who wished to obtain copies of his CSS Alabama image, but I did advise him it should be on the major conditions that the source should be clearly cited, and that it should be allowed with his permission.
I now feel that because of this he may change his mind once again, and not allow anyone to contact him.
