My Potter family arrived/purchased land in what was then the British colony of Pennsylvania (later Delaware)in the 1690's. They were of the Quaker faith and the historical counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire had a large Quaker population at that time and also a large number of persons with the surname Potter.
I saw a comment about a Thomas Potter (crew of the CSS Alabama) and was confused as to if this person was truly the person that died in Liverpool in 1867. I obviously do not descend from a Potter that would have been a crewman on the CSS Alabama but I have had DNA testing conducted and have a very rare DNA signature. If I could find a descendant of his family (Thomas')and convince them to participate in DNA testing I may be able to find my family/lineage back in England. If we had a common ancestor this would show up in the testing. This would be a huge success in my genealogy research if this panned out and if it didn't it would help eliminate place I needed to look as well.
I am a proud descendant of several Confederate Veterans and have belonged to the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) and Military Order of Stars & Bars (MOS&B)in the past. I have a huge scale model of the CSS Alabama and I currently belong to a Mardi Gras association in Mobile, Alabama thats theme is based on Admiral Semmes and I ride on the Emblem Float which is a ship (the CSS Alabama). I recently retired form the U.S. Coast Guard and was a helicopter pilot for them.
Any help you could be in my pursuit to find my English Potter family and to learn more about the CSS Alabama would be greatly appreciated.
