Hello John, your last message has create a mystery.I don't have access to Robert's records at the moment, but will be home in a few days and will have a good look. I am sure they say he was captured at Frying Pan church on that exact date of June 4th. Have been to the beautiful, small white church, now surrounded by suburbs. There is still a stand of trees behind it.He was sent to Richmond..for what seems only a few days. They mention Camp Parole and I have read it was in Annapolis and the scene of prisoner exchanges. They also mention somewhere in Washington Dc...and I thought it was the railway station there.Have no idea why he was there. At some point he was in a hospital in Alexandria with Erisipolis (sp?) measles. His medical reports were thorough.May have been there quite a few months. The roll-call for all the months say when he was present or absent. But strangely there is no mention of him being wounded at any stage. Some document in Spokane ,about why each veteran was mustered out, mentioned his ankle. It did mention the exact date he was made sarg. from corp. and by whom. Also the date he was mustered out in Leavenworth, Kansas.
I have an old family letter that said he was held in Andersonville and very cruelly treated and starved. That he and another lad eventually escaped.Have found nothing to prove any of this to be true.
Thank you for your information. Will get me reading and searching again. Sharon
