Flett, Robert of White River, Mich. August 1836 born in Scotland; 1850 immigrated to United States; 1860 mill worked at Oceana, Muskegon County, Mich. Aug. 15, 1862 enlisted as corporal, Company F, 5th Mich. Cavalry Regiment. no date promoted sergeant; no date shot in right ankle; June 3, 1865 discharged for disability or June 22, 1865 mustered out at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; c.1868 married; 1880 freighter at Rochford, Pennington County, Dakota Territory (present-day South Dakota); Aug. 8, 1890 applied for a pension while living at Spangle, Wash. (application #880793/certificate #622165); 1900 living at Spangle, Wash. Aug. 19, 1909 died and buried in Spangle, Wash. Cemetery in Spokane County, Wash. Oct. 16, 1909 his widow Susan Flett applied for a pension while living in Washington (application #928916/certificate #693376); wife Susan Flett, October 1848 born in England; 1850 immigrated to United States; Children: William Flett, c.1872 born in Michigan; Hannah Flett, c.1878 born in Michigan; Robert R. Flett, October 1880 born in Michigan; Maggie Flett, October 1885 born in Washington; Benjamin H. Flett, October 1888 born in Washington; Philip S. Flett, April 1892 born in Washington and one other child; one child died prior to 1900
NOTE: 1880 US Census lists birth year as c.1842; 1890 US Veterans Census lists the information about him being a sgt., being wounded and date and his disability discharge; 1900 US Census states he lived in US for 50 years and was naturalized/Susan is not listed as naturalized
