I have the following information on Bowles. John Bowles, Colonel. Lawrence, Kansas resident actively engaged in the Underground RR (Ref Sheridan pt 2 pg 16-17) quote pt 3 pg 17) was in 9th Reg Kns Cav, knew of 300 slaves came through Lawrence, 1stLt 9th Kns Cav Co C, LtCol of 1st Kns Colored Vol Infantry, promoted slave soldiers in account. 1st Kns started on Jan 13, 1863 at Fort Scott. had ambrotype parlor in Lawrence.
