Hello, everyone.

I'm just catching up with the Lt. Col. John Bowles thread, and am excited to see Chris Tabor's information. It adds a lot to the picture.

I'm interested in Lt. Col. Bowles because of a biography I'm writing about one of his grandchildren. With the information that Howard Mann had gathered, I queried one of Bowles's great-grandchildren again. He wasn't able to furnish anything definitive (like discharge papers), but he did send a snapshot of the marker at the family plot in Winchester, MA, where his great-grandfather is buried.

The inscription for Bowles reads: "Col. John Bowles - Father of Caroline / Born Aug. 14, 1832 - Died Feb. 14, 1900".

Might anyone have military documentation of Lt. Col. Bowles' birth or death date? That could establish, one way or the other, whether my subject's grandfather and Lt. Col. Bowles are indeed one and the same.

Many thanks,
Susan Delson
