Mr. Gilmore, I say this most respectfully. I dont understand what you mean by yankee biased histories. I'm not educated or a historian, just an amateur who has a lifelong interest in the Civil War & specifically the war west of the river. I've been reading about it since the early 70's when I was a youngster. All the books that I can recall reading were what I would call pro-southern & at the time that was okay with me. Books like Grey Ghosts of the Confederacy, Confederate Cavalry West of the River, many titles I cant recall. I read everything about Quantrill & the James brothers I could find. I learned that John Brown was bad, old Doc Samuels was hung from a tree until near dead, the Kansas City jail collapse, Order #11, etc...I dont recall many books that were critical of the southern viewpoint or of the Guerrillas. Only in the last few years with The Devil Knows How to Ride & Jesse James: Last Rebel of the Civil War, have I found what I thought were books that took a more critical look at those people and the times. The book you say hasnt been written until now, I thought had been written long ago.
