By Golly, I cannot add anything better than what Howard and David have said. Men such as Quantrill had options to behave honorably in war. They chose, instead, the path to kill just to be killing for whatever, in some cases made up or unproven reasons. Such men are neither soldiers nor human. We see that every day in our world. In my mind too much romanticism has been attached to these men when, as David pointed out were nothing more than thugs.
