Re: Beverly James Dickerson killed in Indiana

Marian,Check local newspaper archives for an account.Check Johnson Co.Clerks office for police records of the incident. He would of been in his early forties and eligable for service.I looked him up in the Soldiers & Sailors system both Federal and Confederate in KY. or IN.with no hits.He might well of been a civilian prisoner as the border states were full of them.He might if been a prisoner at one time been given the Oath of Allegiance which stated he wouldn't enter into a state currently involved in the insurection.Though parts of Kentucky were under Federal Control and he could of remained within those lines.I'm not sure if this fits the definition of exile. If indeed a Confederate sympathiser he would not be alone.Even in Indianna. Not directly related to him read O.R. Series II Corespondence involving Prisoners of War and State. If he was vocal in his Allegiance to the south he might well of been sent packing more then held in Indianna to stir up trouble.Violent crime knows no borders.Hope this helps...
