Beverly James Dickerson killed in Indiana

In a letter dated 7 Nov 1863, Margaret Hays wrote " Cousin Beverly Dickerson was killed in Indeania, he was killed by some unknown person, he was a rebel. " Beverly Dickerson (b. abt 1820) lived in Kentucky before the Civil War and he had relatives in Franklin, Johnson Co., Indiana - his Aunt and Uncle, John and Furnetta Garshwiler and their large family. Does anybody have any information about this incident? I don't know if he had joined the Confederate Army and was a prisoner or was exiled to Indiana because of his rebel sympathies. Any information would be helpful.
