The 107th Company, 2nd Battalion, VRC was organized at Camp Douglas, Ill. in November 1863 and mustered out between July 2 and Nov. 30, 1865.

Members of the 2nd Bn. VRC were more disabled than those in the VRC regiments or in the 1st Bn., VRC. Therefore they were assigned cook/nursing duties.

Some of Sweet's heavy-handed tenure may have stemed from at least two plots (July 1864 and November 1864) to free some/all of the 10,000 Confederate prisoners and burn Chicago.
