I agree,"To Die In Chicago" had a lot of great information and jumped on it when 1st came out awhile back. Like many of us with ancestors at that trajic place,we all looked at those photos to see if we could recognize someone.
Perhaps the prisoners most important morale lift was sending and receiving letters from home. The CS Post Office Department sent their prisoners held in northern prisons free CS postage stamps. The US government did not. Perhaps the Feds thought their stamps would be used to buy gunboats and cannon...
