"Captain James Lile LEMON, Company A, 38th Georgia Infantry supplied by another family member. Captured at Knoxville on 29 NOV 1863, he was received at Fort Delaware on 25 MAR 1864."

Hugh, there is a small error in your information on Captain Lemon. He was a member of Co. A, 18th Georgia, not the 38th, as your data has it.

In my senior moments, I have associated or confused Pt. Lookout with Ft. Delaware. Alexander N. Boring's CMSR shows he was captured October 19, 1864 at Strasburg, or Strausburg. He was received at Harpers Ferry October 25. Another card says he was sent to Pt. Lookout October 23. The latter date is machine printed on the card, while the October 25th date is hand written. Sgt. Boring, Company A, 18th Ga. Infantry, has his middle initial, "N", mistakenly listed as "M". He took the oath of Allegiance June 24, 1865 at Pt. Lookout. Here his middle initial is correctly listed.

Interstingly, Captain Lemon completed and signed an affidavit for Uncle Alex' pension on January 13, 1897. He stated that the capture took place at Fisher's Hill. He stated Alex' eye sight was bad, and he was no longer able to farm. I seem to remember something about eye problems among the POWs. Of course, years of fighting and then working outside without eye protection could damage ones vision.

Uncle Frank was hospitalized in September 1862 at Charlottesville. "Vulu Selo." was listed as the reason, and Lynchburg as the location.

He was wounded May 8, 1864, at Spottsylvania, and was sent to Receiving and Wayside Hospital, or Hospital number 9, at Richmond. He was transferred the next day to Jackson Hospital, with "V. S. L. Shoulder, Minie Ball." This ball entered the front of the shoulder, broke the shoulder blade, ranged downward, and exited near his spine. He was on the morning report of the hospital.

I am not sure when he was furloughed to Georgia for recovery, but he was captured July 9, 1864 at Roswell, Ga. He was routed to Marietta, Ga., July 12, and arrived in Nashville July 24. He was sent to Louisville, Ky. July 26, and to Camp Douglas July 28. His oath of allegience is dated June 16, 1865. Stan
