On the 1870 census the columns "can not read" and "can not write" were not ticked for Thomas McCann, so I don't think "Thomas Mccain" was him. Also his signature is on the deposition he gave in 1880. I can't find the slip of paper they gave me at the Archives about him begin "Absent" at Red River....it was a long time ago, now I wonder if they just showed it to me. It was the size of a 3x5 slip of paper...not something photo copied on a 8x10 paper. It was not the same day I photocopied most of his file in the Research room.

There were no statements in the depositions regarding Camp Ford, except to verify that TM was there and Thomas stating that Nestell treated him with "blistering and laudanum". Most of his statements are about the injury during the battle at Sabine Pass except a comment on one of the many Surgeon's Certificates that he had "malaria for 30 years ...contracted in service 1863....bronchitis since war service at Camp Tyler Texas."

Adjutant General verifying their capture and also capture and parole of B.Neville and M.Langton. The rest of the depositions were to establish his good health prior to the war,injury in the war and progression of his problems.

I learned a lot about his life from the depositions and used them to write a brief family history. It was written for our family and I am concerned about sending copies to anyone outside of the family. I have used a few pictures and information from books and the Internet and don't know how legal that is. I'm too old(77) and poor to go to jail...think I'd loose my Medicare.
