Thanks Tom. I remember Smith's 3 Parrotts being up for grabs to Latham. Federal artillery that day was very poorly coordinated. Pfanz details that quite well in his book. If I remember correctly them trying to place Smith's guns in a wooded area near the rear of the wheatfield going on the sound of the enemy's firing, but without sight of them. Barksdale's men took advantage of the mis-coordination to their advantage, overtaking and capturing several guns as I recall. That's some really cool info that rounds were actually recovered from Latham's 6 pounder. They had to be at a disadvantage on ammo being the only one (six pounder) there. Well, I guess not so much as the gun was out of service during the day. Nice to have your input.
