The Civil War Artillery Message Board

Ron....as I stated in my last post, I stumbled on that web page after a Google search. My wife does corporate security investigations for a large company here in Virginia and has shown me some tricks with Google that get you where you want to be. If you hit the links on that page you could see that the original source page or "home" wasn't available. I'm just creating some dialogue here between us. I know your knowledge of artillery from past posts here as well as some other forums that you participate in and that I take notes from. Haha. Off the original topic, it interested me in how many of those batteries were six gun batteries as compared with mostly four gun batteries in the east. (Confederate) And in the entire list of ordnance (accurate in their participation or not) there were only two rifled guns mentioned. I know that a lot of six pounders made their way west as the power of the Napoleon was put to task in the east and rifled pieces began to dominate the field. Please help an old Virginia boy out and keep me up to date with message boards and discussion groups that I may learn from. Artillery is my passion as it surely is yours. I would greatly appreciate any avenues of learning you could steer me towards. Interesting side note........my iron six pounder came from Alabama. A reenactment group known as Tarrant's Battery. It is my understanding from the previous owner that they regularly participated in "living history" demonstrations at Shiloh. Fine bunch of fellows that I met. The piece is now residing in central Virginia near Gaines' Mill where we try to keep her barrel warm. I hope to meet you sometime in the future at Fort Shenandoah or (my dream vacation) Grayling. We want to shoot live and admire and respect those of you that do. Thanks in advance and keep up the detailed research and postings.
