Masons at Mine Creek

I am trying to document a rumor that I have heard ever since I was a child. Namely that after the issue had been decided at Mine Creek in October 1864, the victorious Federals began executing rebels found wearing any captured Union clothing or gear. When the southerners POWs realized what was about to take place, they gave the masonic distress sign and were escorted into the woods by Federal masons and all offending items were removed. Can anyone actually docment that this did in fact take place? Thank you. Scott Price
