My great-grandfather's brother John German, Company B, 65th Georgia Infantry Regiment, was a POW at Rock Island Prison after Battle of Missionary Ridge. He took an oath of allegiance and tried to join Union Army for the West campaign but he was turned down because of his bad health. But anyway he was released with 1,900 POWs on October 18, 1864. Some joined Union army. Some worked on the railroad, some worked at quartermaster supply depots, etc. Where could John go?
