My g-g-grandfather was taken prisoner at Missionary Ridge (he was with Ala. 19th infantry) I noticed from his service records that he was sent to Rock Island but fairly quickly, in a matter of days, was sent to Kentucky for exchange. I imagine prisoners at Missionary Ridge were rounded up and sent north by train. Does anyone know where, precisely in the area of the battle, the prisoners would have been loaded up and sent North and what route they took?
I am writing a paper on the Ala. 19th and haven't found this information as of the present.
Thanks very much.
