New topic - March 2015 would be 150 years since the tragedy. My sainted youngest brother has floated the idea of chartering a boat and doing an at-sea memorial. I understand that, given the ship burned, there probably isn't a wreck site as such, but a reasonable location in that area would, in my view, be appropriate. Anyone else interested in this? I'm retired Navy, and can ask if a Navy vessel would be available ... although I think I know the answer (they can't beat me for asking, though). More likely would be a fly-by, given the proximity of Naval Air Station Oceana or Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.
