Re Robert Davis, 11th Iowa (Hazel Tarpley, I hope you are still around!). The only record I can find of him is in Vol 2 of the Roster and Record of Iowa Soldiers as "Mustered out July 15, 1865, Louisville, Ky." It doesn't even say he was ever captured.
And yet he was on the Lyon according to both the NY Times passenger list 4/14/63 and per F W Foster USSC (although shown there as "Davis, A; no regiment; paroled") NYT Jan 19, 1866.
I've learned that "mustered out" doesn't necessarily mean that a soldier was present to clean out his locker - he may not even have been alive. So if Hazel's around, please what do you have in the way of army records that show he died on the Lyon?
