This appears in his Widow’s pension application file.
On the Muster Out Roll of Co B of that Regiment dated July 15, 1865, he is reported “On detached service at Brig. Head Quarters since Oct. 24, 1864. Missing since Dec. 1864, supposed to have been taken prisoner. No evidence of death on file in this Office.

Later after she had remarried, a minor’s pension applicaton in the name of their three sons this appears on their claim dated August 19, 1869
Rolls show muster Sept 1, 1864, and Delivered as a paroled prisoner of war at N. E. Ferry N.C. Feb. 28, 1865, admitted to Hosptl. for treatment for Scurvy, was sent North Mch. 28, 1865, and perished on or about March 30, 1865 on board Stm Genl Lyon
