It is my understanding that his middle name was James...but I cannot provide you with definitive documentation to prove that. I will keep my eyes open and if I can come up with a source document...I will email you a copy...and yes, Miles disappears off the NJ census about the mid 1880's...and the phone book (according to Mr. McEvoy's research) indicates that Carrie later moved from Elizabeth NJ to Bayonne...assumption is she either moved in with or next door to one of her children...so he died...or they divorced or something...no death certificate can be found...Bob McEvoy postulates that maybe he died at sea??? I have no idea...but would like to explore whether he went back to New Orleans for some reason and died there...he lived there in his early years...either that or he died in another state and is buried elsewhere (a military cemetary like that in Tennesse where Simeon Cummings was recently RE-layed to rest??? The mystery of history, huh?
