Susan, thank you for your posting. I only have a little bit on Freeman, as shown at my CSN personnel web site (which needs a major update, since I have quite a bit of additional data on many of the personnel listed):

Miles J. Freeman (Register1863 incorrectly shows his first initial as W.), born Louisiana (one source also shows place of birth as Wales, United Kingdom), 1832; appointed from Louisiana as 1st assistant engineer, Confederate States Navy, May 11, 1861; served on the CSS Sumter, and on the Mississippi defenses, 1861-1863; sent to Liverpool, England, via London, April, 1862; later served on the CSS Alabama from which he was captured, when the vessel sank, off Cherbourg, France, and taken aboard the USS Kearsarge, June 19, 1864; sent to Fort Warren, Boston Harbor, where he was received November 11, 1864; released June 2, 1865; resided as a steamboat engineer, in 1880, with his wife Caroline, and five children (eldest child born 1868; all children born in New Jersey), at Elizabeth, Union County, New Jersey. [Sinclair; Booth 1, 927; ORN 1, 1, 614 & 684; CSS Sumter Muster Roll; Fort Warren; 1880 U.S. Census; Register1863; Register1864.]

I had seen some data written, post war, on Freeman, but cannot now find the copies I made of this additional data, too, but will also add this at a later date. Because of some major research work I am currently involved in, I have put most of my CSN work on hold for a short period, but will continue on it at a later stage. I have had some interesting data found in recent months on CSN personnel.
