Keith
.. Wish I had known you were gonna be there.. I would have looked you up to say Hi... I was there also...lol...

In the current remaining state of the economy the market values of majority of civil war artifacts remains quite depressed. Especially on larger high ticket items. I know many collectors and dealers that are still sitting on items that are at about half of the normal value prices, they still cant move. Many are being more selective or reserved in their collecting habits. I was surprized that the guns went as high as they actually did. Only difference in what I recorded from what you posted was the two 3in Ord Rifles sold at 18K and 22K. Noticed that the same guy bought both of the two bronze guns. Most there seemed to have their own target items they were interested in and after which is common.

Also noted that some of the items were mislabled as to what they actually were, so you had to really know what you were looking at or bidding on. There was a M1842 musket that had a Harpers Ferry lockplate, but didnt have the usual Harpers Ferry style hammer. It was in poor-fair condition only deemed for wall hanger that sold for $650.... Another weapon labled as a Confederate made and marked musket copy of a 1855 model... What or how that was come up with is a mystery.... On close examination it had an Enfield lock plate with stampings removed... a sporting gun hammer... sporterized stock... and someone had stamped "CS" on the forward end of the lockplate... not of the type or font style that is normally found on period weapons, nor stamped in the usual place.... Appeared to be a hybrid of misc pieces parts and someone put the CS on it to try to give some form of validity... didnt work...lol... However unfortunately another friend of mine present bought it for $450... lol..
They also had a really nice minty condition Rev War era Brown Bess.. that went for only $400... I couldnt react fast enough to try to get it... and missed it... A mint condition really nice original Smith Carbine went for $1100. Did you get a good look at the "Confederate Battle Flag".... Someone tried to say it was authentic and a Naval Ensign... nope... It was from the 1900-1930's era and was nothing Naval at all... If memory serves correctly it sold for $450....

Respects
Frederick
