I know alittle about the 24Wisc. as they were part of Sheridan's Div. at Stones River. They were in a brigade that My GGGrandfather belonged. The 24Wisc.I believe was formed do to a perceived assult on Cincinati,OH. and entered the Army of Ohio in Sept.1862?.First battle was Perryville,KY in Oct.1862.Seems part of McCook's Corps.at Goodnight Spring,Chaplin Hill,Perryville,KY.Rosecrans took control at Nashville and reformed as the Army of the Cumberland. At Stones River they were to the right of the 36IL.Inf. and collapsed at the initial onslought 6:45amcausing the brunt to be faced by the Veteran 36IL. who held.My GGGrandfather 1st.Lt.John F.Elliott 36IL.Inf.Co.K.,wounded and captured.Though really he was on picket and not the fault of the 24 collapse.Gen .Sill was in charge of the brigade(killed in action)and Col.Greussel 36IL. assumed command,to which included the 24Wisc.,21Mich.,36IL.,88IL.,Bush's Battery(4IND.)There were acouple of regt.'s in reserve the 73IL.was one.I don't remember and there was another battery I can't remember if it Hescock's Missouri battery.I believe there is a mention in the history of the 36IL..I'll check and get back to you.My memory is not what it used to be....
